ADMIRAL Showcases Research at the Transportation Research Symposium 2025 in Rotterdam

The ADMIRAL project was proud to be represented at the inaugural Transportation Research Symposium 2025, held last week in Rotterdam, where researchers and innovators from across Europe gathered to share insights on the future of sustainable and data-driven mobility.

Representing the consortium, Álvaro Aguilera García and Daniela Castaño Herrera from Universidad Politécnica de Madrid presented two pioneering research studies that reflect ADMIRAL’s mission to foster more efficient, sustainable, and resilient logistics and transport systems across Europe.

Optimising Fleet Size for Taxis and Ridehailing in Madrid

In collaboration with the Hellenic Institute of Transport, this study — “Optimising Fleet Size for Taxis and Ridehailing in Madrid: A Data-Driven Approach to Balancing Urban Transport Demand and Supply” — investigates how data analytics can support smarter decision-making in urban mobility.

By analysing real-world mobility patterns and operational data, the research proposes models that help cities determine the optimal number of vehicles in taxi and ridehailing fleets. This contributes to reducing congestion, improving service quality, and minimising environmental impacts — keeping cities moving efficiently and sustainably.

Key Sustainability Goals for the Logistics Sector

The second presentation, “Key Sustainability Goals for the Logistics Sector: A Cross-Sectional Survey Analysis of the European Logistics Landscape”, was conducted under the  ADMIRAL Project.
This study explores the current priorities, challenges, and drivers of sustainability in the European logistics ecosystem, based on extensive survey data collected from industry stakeholders across multiple countries.

The findings shed light on how companies and policy makers can align strategies to reduce emissions, enhance efficiency, and accelerate the green transition in freight transport.
