ADMIRAL insights presented at the Transportation Research

Board (TRB) Conference reveal how sustainability priorities differ across Europe’s logistics sector.

On 12th January, ADMIRAL partner José Manuel Vassallo presented key findings at the Transportation Research Board (TRB) Conference in Washington, bringing valuable insights into how logistics stakeholders perceive and prioritise sustainability.

The presentation shared results from a stakeholder survey conducted within the ADMIRAL project, offering a clearer understanding of regional differences and innovation trends shaping the future of logistics.

Regional differences in sustainability priorities

One of the key findings highlights that sustainability priorities are not uniform across Europe. Instead, they reflect regional contexts and challenges:

  • Northern Europe places a strong emphasis on environmental aspects, focusing on reducing emissions and environmental impact.
  • Western Europe shows a more balanced approach, prioritising both environmental and social dimensions.
  • Eastern Europe tends to combine environmental and economic considerations, reflecting the importance of cost-efficiency alongside sustainability goals

These differences underline the importance of adaptable, region-sensitive solutions when designing policies and innovations for greener logistics systems.

High-potential solutions for sustainable logistics

The survey also identified the most promising solutions from the perspective of logistics stakeholders. Three key areas stand out:

  • Energy efficiency technologies, enabling reduced consumption and improved operational performance
  • Alternative fuels, supporting the transition to low-emission transport systems
  • Digitalisation, enhancing optimisation, transparency, and decision-making across logistics networks

Together, these solutions represent critical levers for accelerating the sustainability transition in the logistics sector.

Supporting informed decision-making through ADMIRAL

By gathering and analysing stakeholder perspectives, ADMIRAL contributes to a better understanding of the needs, expectations, and priorities across the logistics ecosystem. These insights support the development of solutions that are not only innovative but also aligned with real-world challenges and regional specificities.
