ADMIRAL at European Transport Conference 2025 – Project Collaboration
& Insights into decarbonization strategies in multimodal transport
Advancing net-zero logistics through research and innovation
From 17th to 19th September 2025, ADMIRAL was represented at the European Transport Conference (ETC), one of Europe’s leading events for transport research and policy. During the conference, Dr. Elisabete Arsenio (LNEC), leading ADMIRAL analysis on sustainable logistics and transport, presented the paper “Transforming Transport & Logistics Supply Chains Towards Net Zero” discussing pathways towards climate-neutral transport systems.
In the frame of ADMIRAL’s research activities on sustainable transformation of transport and logistics systems more than 50 technologies and measures aiming at decarbonisation have been identified and assessed across various transport modes from road transport to maritime transport.
The approach also integrated a comprehensive sustainability impact assessment, ensuring that environmental, economic, and operational dimensions are considered together.
Key insights: energy, fuels, and collaboration
Discussions during the session confirmed several important trends shaping the future of logistics:
- Alternative fuels and energy efficiency are emerging as critical priorities across all transport modes
- Integrated, cross-modal approaches are essential to achieving meaningful emissions reductions
- Collaboration-driven measures play a key role in unlocking system-wide sustainability gains
In particular, the concept of “sustainability through collaboration” was highlighted as a powerful enabler for accelerating the transition, emphasising the need for coordinated actions across stakeholders and sectors. Dr. Elisabete Arsenio underlined that, given the diversity of possible pathways, the most effective strategies will combine multiple measures.
Strengthening synergies with the LOLIPOP project
The event was also an opportunity to showcase ADMIRAL’s project collaboration with the Finnish LOLIPOP project, which has been driven by the coordinating partner VTT.
Both ADMIRAL and LOLIPOP share a common ambition to advance sustainable, efficient, and innovative logistics systems, making knowledge exchange and alignment of approaches particularly valuable.
